ACADEMICS

Our school is the first Serbian Orthodox faith based school in the country. Our students receive an exceptional academic background with a strong Orthodox faith foundation. We provide a structured and challenging academic education in a small classroom setting.

Religion

At our school we follow the words of Jesus, “Train up a child in the way he should; and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”  Proverbs 22:6. Students are provided with a well rounded curriculum which is especially important to our Orthodox faith. It is in this class that our students learn of the service and love of our Lord.

Science

The Science curriculum follows the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), which encourage active investigation, questioning, modeling and collaboration.  Its “crosscutting concepts” are key to connecting and interpreting the vast topics of science. With hands-on classroom labs and engineering activities, and many field trips to Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE), students apply the engineering design process to solve real-world problems.

Social Studies

Our Social Studies curriculum focuses on educating our students about Community, Civics, Geography, Serbian and World History. By the end of 8th grade, students are able to comprehend complex Social Studies subjects independently and proficiently.

Music

At St. Sava, the student is exposed to the different basic music and art processes through experiential learning. Through the formal introduction of elements, the student can identify the basic knowledge and skills in music and art towards self-development, the celebration of Serbian cultural identity, diversity, and the expansion of one’s world vision.

Physical Education

At St. Sava we value the importance of Physical Education for all students.  Students practice competence in movement and motor skills requisite to various physical activity performances. Students learn to value physical activities for enjoyment, challenge, social interaction and career opportunities. The teacher guides students to understand various movement concepts, principles, strategies and tactics as they apply to the learning of physical activity.

English

At St. Sava we implement the Common Core State Standards for English/Language Arts (2020).  As an effective language arts program we process content and communication styles. Teachers use curriculum, instruction, and assessment to reflect the integration of listening, speaking, viewing, reading, and writing. Language Arts/English classes are aimed at developing the student's comprehension and capacity for use of written and oral language which is the key to St. Sava English Language Arts Program.
